The Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) is a Singapore government-enacted law that establishes a benchmark for personal data protection. The PDPA recognises the “need to protect individuals’ personal data and the need of organisations to collect, use or disclose personal data for legitimate and reasonable purposes”.
The organisation must designate a Data Protection Officer (DPO) to be PDPA compliant. A DPO is responsible for ensuring that the firm follows the PDPA guidelines. It is critical that the firm explains its data protection policy to consumers and responds quickly when customers have queries about the policy.
